DESCRIPTION:<p>Join us at the Park for a jubilant Juneteenth Celebration curated by <strong>Historian Darrell Stover</strong>! </p><p>Experience the spirit of “freedom dance” as movement takes center stage, honoring expression, resilience, and joy through live performances and moments that invite everyone to join in. Enjoy delicious bites from food trucks and explore vibrant vendors as we celebrate culture, community, and the power of dance.<br><br>Celebrated annually, Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved Black people in the state were free. Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day marked with celebrations and special gatherings.<br><br>See below for the full schedule of the day! All performances will be on the Great Lawn Pavilion.<br><br></p><ul>    <li>4 – 8 p.m.: Art Cart in the Nest Pavilion</li>    <li>4 p.m.: Procession, Welcome, and Proclamation</li>    <li>4:20 p.m.: Libation</li>    <li>4:30 p.m.: SUAH African Dance Theatre</li>    <li>5 p.m.: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Choir</li>    <li>5:30 p.m.: United States Colored Troops</li>    <li>6 p.m.: Flee Dance and Wellness</li>    <li>6:30 p.m.: Poetic Moments in History</li>    <li>7:15 p.m.: The Akoma de Gabo Dance and Drum Performance Ensemble</li>    <li>8:15 p.m.: Freddy Greene Street Genie</li></ul><h2>Know Before You Go</h2>This event is open to the public.<br>This event is suitable for all ages.<br><h2>Inclusion Services</h2>Downtown Cary Park strives to provide a positive experience for all guests.
