Cary, NC – The Town of Cary is seeking nominations for the 2023 Hometown Spirit Award. Given annually since 2009, the award recognizes a citizen who enhances the quality of life in Cary by preserving, promoting, and carrying out positive and quantifiable small-town community values and traits.
"I think of Cary as an oasis of neighborly compassion, demonstrating caring and help for each other, regardless of income, background, race, or personal beliefs," shared Bob Moncsko, 2022 Hometown Spirit Award winner. "It is to that end that the Hometown Spirit Award recognizes those individuals that portray selfless acts of help and support for others in the community. This is the epitome of 'neighbor helping neighbor,' forming a better life."
Cary citizens can submit nominations August 25-September 22, 2023, using an official nomination form available online. Forms can also be submitted to the Clerk’s office by email at Sarah.Schubert@carync.gov or by mail to:

Cary citizens ages 21 and older are eligible for the award. Nominees should demonstrate leadership and integrity and be respected by their peers. In addition, nominees should exhibit some of the following traits: helps out neighbors and fellow Cary citizens; demonstrates hospitality; promotes and preserves traditional American pastimes; shows a concern for preservation and works to preserve traditions and the small-town atmosphere in the community; promotes a sense of community in their neighborhood and all of Cary; demonstrates patriotism through promotion and preservation of the country's symbols and dedication to the U.S. military, past and present; and serves the community through business.
At the November 16, 2023 Council meeting, the Cary Council will recognize the three finalists. The 2022 award winner, Bob Moncsko, will join Mayor Weinbrecht to announce the 2023 award recipient.
