Winter Weather Glazes Cary, Services Transition to Normal Operations Later Today

  • Since the first flakes, Cary’s crews remain committed to treating streets, which for today will look like applying salt/sand mix to Cary’s main thoroughfares and historically icy spots to optimize Mother Nature’s dry, sunny and breezy day.  

  • Community Centers and other staffed facilities will reopen at noon Saturday. The Citizens Convenience Center is closed Saturday but will reopen Sunday at 1 p.m. GoCary will resume services at noon Saturday and operate until 6 p.m.; there will be no Tier 3 Door-to-Door services.  

  • Remaining precipitation is expected to refreeze overnight. Drivers should use caution and check the status of Cary Streets at carync.gov/traffic; follow Cary social media for remaining operational updates/service impacts.  

Cary, NC – Cary broke its snow drought Friday evening but quickly saw the snow flake out and transition to sleet and icy rain for much of this winter weather event. Cary’s crews spent the evening and overnight hours treating streets and today will remain focused on tending to Cary’s thoroughfares and through-streets in subdivisions while Mother Nature’s dry, breezy day helps to improve overall street conditions. The Town does not treat private parking lots, including those in apartment and condominium complexes or at businesses and commercial centers.  

Since 5 p.m. Friday, Cary responded to 18 crashes, one of which involved injuries; there have been no weather-related crashes since 3 a.m. Based on the current forecast, the following Cary services are as follows: 

  • All community centers, including Downtown Cary Park’s Guest Services, and programming will resume as of noon on Saturday.  

  • The Bark Bar and Market 317 remains closed Saturday. Diamante’s Three Kings Parade is canceled but celebrations at the organization’s Raleigh location will still be held. This evening’s GLOW Under the Silver Moon Lantern Parade at Downtown Cary Park is canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.  

  • GoCary will resume service at noon on Saturday and operate until 6 p.m.; there will be no Tier 3 Door-to-Door services. Should Sunday’s services change, updates will be posted in the GoCary app and on GoCary’s social media accounts. 

  • The Citizen’s Convenience Center will be closed Saturday and reopen at 1 p.m. Sunday. 

  • The NC Chinese Lantern Festival at Koka Booth Amphitheatre will reopen Saturday and Sunday for the final nights of the NC Chinese Lantern Festival. Date-specific tickets purchased for Friday will be honored on Saturday or Sunday. Refund requests will also be honored for Friday-specific tickets left unredeemed.  

Participants with questions about hours of operation at the different facilities should contact the particular facility. The status of recreation, athletic and cultural arts programs can also be verified online.
