Cary, NC - Cary began the final town-wide loose leaf collection sweep today, January 5. Citizens are encouraged to continue preparing leaf piles properly to support safe and efficient collection as the loose-leaf season ends.
Citizens are reminded to avoid covering sidewalks, storm drains, water meters, fire hydrants, and sewer clean-outs, and to keep piles a safe distance from mailboxes and parked cars. Trash, large stones, and other debris should be kept out of leaf piles to prevent damage to equipment and ensure timely service.
Following the end of loose-leaf season, Cary will provide leaf collection by request at no charge from February 9 through March 31; a fee will apply for additional pickup requests after March 31, 2026. Citizens may contact Cary 311 to request service or learn more. Leaves placed in reusable containers or brown paper bags may be set curbside for weekly yard waste collection, and yard waste is accepted at no charge at the Citizen’s Convenience Center located at 313 N. Dixon Avenue year-round.
Leaves collected through Cary's loose-leaf program are composted, keeping this organic material out of the landfill and returning valuable nutrients to the soil, supporting Cary’s sustainability goals.
