Cary, NC — Be it a winter wow or womp-womp, Cary is taking steps now to prepare for a full variety of potential wintery precipitation this weekend. The beloved A-Team began brining all main and secondary streets yesterday, and will continue pretreating streets through the end of business Friday. Response crews are inventorying generators, chainsaws, and tire chains and preparing plows and spreaders. To fight this winter storm, Cary has 3,000 tons of salt and 400 tons of salt/sand mix, and well over 400 staff ready to respond across all operational departments.
If snowfall reaches one inch, the A-Team will plow and treat roads in priority order — starting with major thoroughfares, followed by primary streets within subdivisions, then through-streets in subdivisions, and then cul-de-sacs based on the curbside collection schedule. The Town does not treat private parking lots, including those in apartment and condominium complexes, businesses, or commercial centers.
Take time now to ensure you’re ready for adverse winter weather:
- Prepare now: stock up on food essentials, medications, and pet supplies to support your home for 3-5 days.
- Be proactive and locate and learn how to use your residence’s master water shut-off valve in the event of broken utility pipes.
- Do not park on streets so that Town equipment can service the area.
- Do not attempt to deal with downed limbs or trees on a street or sidewalk on your own since they may be tangled in live power lines; instead, call the Town’s non-emergency number at (919) 469-4012.
- Be neighborly and check on neighbors to ensure everyone is OK.
- Stay indoors during severe winter weather. If you do decide to venture out, whether walking or driving — let folks know when and where you are going so that they can contact emergency officials should you fail to reach your destination. Take a cell phone just in case.
- Power outages are possible with this storm. Charge portable power chargers now and refresh flashlights. Report power outages to Duke Energy Progress anytime at 1-800-343-3525, or Apex Electric at (919) 372-7475. If someone in your neighborhood doesn't call, your area may not be on the repair list.
- Without power, temperatures indoors can drop quickly. Know how to stay warm. Use generators outdoors only, far away from windows; never use grills, ovens, or candles for heat; close off unused rooms to help manage heat, and dress in layers.
- Stay informed by signing up for ReadyWake Alerts.

At this time, there are no weather-related impacts to Town operations and services. Cary’s next winter weather update will be Saturday at 4 p.m. unless changing conditions warrant sooner action. For the most real-time updates, follow Cary on social media.
