  • GLOW pop-up art exhibition returns to Academy Street for the fifth year in a row.
  • Six pieces have been installed so far, with one being replaced at the Ivey-Ellington house in mid-February
  • The art installations kicked off with Under the Silver Moon community lantern parade in Downtown Cary Park and will run through mid- to late March.

Cary, NC – This January, GLOW returned to downtown Cary, featuring seven light-based pop-up art installations on display through mid-March. From a multi-story floral design built of glowing tubes to spring flowers projected on the Ivey-Ellington historic house, these public artworks are made to delight and surprise the viewer.

GLOW is presented by Academy Street Artwork Projects and was conceived during the COVID lockdown, offering Cary citizens an opportunity to get outside. Now in its fifth year, the project kicked off with a lantern parade in Downtown Cary Park, during which nearly 1200 participants marched through the park with handmade lanterns.

“We wanted to use art to brighten the darkest days of winter,” said Denise Dickens, Public Art Program Supervisor for the Town of Cary. “By transforming the space into a vibrant celebration, we hope to create lasting memories for the Cary community.”

Six pieces have been installed so far and can be found at locations along Academy Street downtown. A seventh installation is planned for mid-February, replacing Robin Vuchnich’s work at the Ivey-Ellington house.

Viewers can learn more and access a map of the installations online at carync.gov/glow.
