Cary, NC — Continuing in its investment of access and convenience, Cary’s Academy Street Parking Deck at 206 S. Academy Street is now open for use. The four-level, 467-space deck includes 225 free public parking spaces, making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy everything downtown has to offer — from dining and shopping to festivals and events. Residents got a taste of the new Academy Street Parking Deck during the Pimento Cheese Festival over the weekend, as it opened to the public.

Conveniently located with access from Academy Street and East Chatham Street via the new Waddell Plaza Lane, and with nearby connections to Harrison Avenue, the deck is designed with both convenience and accessibility in mind. The public parking area includes seven ADA-accessible spaces and 20 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations available throughout the first three levels. Upper levels of the deck are reserved for residents and guests, separated by an internal gate.

The parking deck is part of the Meridian Cary, an integrated mixed-use development that brings 195 residential units and more than 80,000 square feet of retail and office space downtown. The project supports the Cary Community Plan's vision of Chatham Street as a vibrant commercial corridor, further enhancing downtown as a destination to live, work, and gather.

“With the continued activity around Downtown Cary Park and the mix of new and existing businesses, convenient access remains a priority,” said Assistant Town Manager Scot Berry. “The Academy Street Parking Deck, located just steps from the park, provides additional parking to support visitors and make it easier to experience all of downtown.”
