Cary, NC – Cary is marking Pride Month this June with a lineup of events, art installations, and community programming in the heart of downtown. This year's programming is presented in partnership with AARP and the Carolina Aging Alliance as part of Cary's designation as an AARP Age-Friendly Community. From colorful lighting and murals to live performances and interactive exhibitions, Cary's Pride Month offerings reflect the town's commitment to welcoming everyone, regardless of age, identity, or background.
Throughout June, the Cary Arts Center will offer three ongoing Pride Month experiences Monday-Saturday, during regular operating hours. The Pride-themed Hall of Artists exhibit spotlights LGBTQ+ artists and their work. In Principal's Hall, the interactive exhibition "What Are You Proud Of?" invites visitors to add their stories to a growing community mural. Rounding out the month-long offerings, the free weekly Books & Bean Bag Chairs drop-in, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., features art books, reading materials, and images celebrating LGBTQ+ artists and their work.
Pride in the Park, Cary’s signature Pride Month event, is scheduled for June 13 at Downtown Cary Park from 4-10 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Themed crafts will be available at the Art Cart in the Nest Pavilion from 4-8 p.m. The Night Market Co. will host a showcase of locally crafted goods from Triangle-area LGBTQ+ artisans and allies, alongside food, drinks, and entertainment, from 5-10 p.m. A Pride-themed Silent Disco at the Great Lawn Pavilion runs from 7:30-10 p.m.
On June 20, Pop-Up Chorus Broadway comes to The Cary Theater at 7:30 p.m. Participants will sing along to Broadway classics from "Rent" and "The Wizard of Oz." Tickets are $20 general admission and $16 for Cary Film Circle members. Additionally, a large Pride mural on the exterior brick wall of BREW Coffee Bar will be on display throughout the month.
Also on June 20, Page-Walker Arts & History Center will host "Acting Out," a free afternoon program exploring the evolution of LGBTQ+ representation in theater through readings by local actors. The program is led by veteran Cary theater producers, Debra Zumbach Grannan and Mark Zumbach, and runs from 1-3 p.m.
Throughout the month, pride lighting will periodically illuminate the Cary Arts Center, Downtown Cary Park, Cedar Street Parking Deck, and The Cary Theater marquee.
Cary offers nearly 2,000 free downtown parking spaces, including four parking decks. The GoCary bus depot is directly across the train tracks in downtown Cary, and riders can take any GoCary route to reach Pride events all month long.
