CARY IS HERE TO HELP YOU GO GREEN
KEEP YOUR COMPOST CLEAR OF CONTAMINANTS

Backyard composting may seem intimidating, but here are a few easy tips to make your compost pile work for you! Learn more at carync.gov/compost.

  • Compost fruits and vegetables; avoid meat, dairy, oils, bread, and grains.
  • Remove trash, rubber bands, packaging, and stickers before adding scraps.
  • Add "browns" like leaves, damp cardboard, or wood chips to balance your pile.
  • Turn your compost for airflow and add water to keep it breaking down.

BRING IT TO THE DROP-OFF
Divert all your household food waste from the landfill and return it to the earth as compost. Both of Cary's Food Waste Recycling drop-off sites accept all off and many paper products. This includes meat (raw and cooked), bones, and BPI-certified compostable foodservice ware. Collected materials will be turned into compost, with some heading to Cary's own Good Hope Farm. This free service is open to Cary Residents only. carync.gov/foodwaste

WASHING YOUR CAR WHILE PROTECTING OUR WATER WAYS
Washing your car at home can impact local waterways if runoff enters storm drains untreated. When washing our car at home: use a hose with a shutoff nozzle, biodegradable, phosphate-free soap, wash on grass or gravel, and use water sparingly — or choose a commercial car wash where water is recycled and treated. carync.gov/hazardouswaste

Messages that claim your account will be locked or that a payment is overdue are good examples of this scam. If you encounter an email like this— pause! If you aren't expecting the message, treat it with caution, event if it looks legitimate. When in doubt, contact the sender or organization with a trusted number or directly through the website.
