Mission

The mission of the Human Relations, Inclusion and Diversity Advisory Board is to improve the quality of life and sense of belonging for the Cary community by: 

  • Making data informed recommendations
  • Creating broader access
  • Encouraging equitable (fair) treatment and 
  • Promoting mutual understanding and respect amongst all people.

For the purposes of the HRID's work, human relations, inclusion, diversity and equity are defined as:   

Human Relations – study of human relations from organizational and interpersonal viewpoints 
Inclusion – the practice in which individuals with different backgrounds are valued, welcomed, included and supported 
Diversity – the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, socioeconomic background, etc. 
Equity- the process of ensuring fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for individuals by establishing systems and processes that counteract social inequities, thus breaking and preventing the formation of barriers.   

Life Span Statement

The Human Relations, Inclusion, and Diversity Advisory Board is a standing board, which meets monthly. Board members will reexamine their purpose every three years beginning in 2027.

Membership

The Board consists of 8 members appointed by Town Council.

Meetings

The Human Relations, Inclusion and Diversity Board meets the first Tuesday evening of each month at 6 p.m. in-person with or virtual options at Town Hall, 316 N. Academy Street, Cary, NC 27513. The meetings are open to the public, and participation in this task force requires approximately 2 hours per month for meetings and study time prior to the meetings. In addition, task force member may be asked to participate in smaller work groups outside of their regularly scheduled meeting and may also spend several hours each month performing research.
