Overview
Cary has long demonstrated a strong commitment to upholding both the letter and the spirit of North Carolina’s public records laws, which include but are not limited to North Carolina General Statutes chapters 132 and 160A-168. We are focused on ensuring an open, timely, accurate and complete exchange of public information with our citizens, and this commitment is articulated in our public records policy.Reviewing a Public Record
Access a great number of Cary public records at your convenience via this Web site by using the Search feature at the top of any page, or browsing through our Plans, Publications and Reports index. Social media records, created on the Town's social web accounts, can be viewed at cary.gov.archivesocial.com.
To request a record, email your request to 311@carync.gov, or call 311 (919-469-4000). Be sure to share as much information as you can about the record(s) to avoid having us reach back out to you for clarifications.
Town of Cary staff will work within the guidelines of our public records policy when fulfilling your public records request.

A Note About E-mails
State law provides that most records kept by local governments are public; they have to be specifically exempt to be private, and e-mails aren’t exempt. So, if you send the Town an e-mail, that information may be turned over to third parties who request them at any time without prior notice to you in keeping with State law.By subscribing to any of the Town's e-mail lists, your e-mail address becomes subject to North Carolina State Law. State Session Law 2010-83 requires the Town to make our e-mail subscriber lists available for public inspection; however, Cary is not required to and will not provide copies of our subscribers' e-mail addresses to the public. We do not sell e-mail addresses or e-mail databases.
Utility billing information, including bank accounts, are not public record, and Cary does not share this information with others.
