As of August 1, 2026, Cary-owned public EV charging ports have transitioned to a fee-based charging model. Drivers can access charging via their smartphone app, providing a consistent experience with other charging networks across the region. This change supports Cary's ongoing commitment to sustainable transportation, helping maintain and expand EV infrastructure as adoption continues to grow.

Fees for EV Charging

  • $0.20 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for three hours of charging
  • After three (3) hours a charge of $10/hour idle fee (max or $100) is issued.
  • There will be a 15-minute grace period given before idle fees are issued.
