Fenton Development

Fenton is a mixed-use development located on 92 acres in the northwest quadrant of the I-40/Cary Towne Boulevard interchange.  The site is located in the Eastern Cary Gateway Special Planning Area and was envisioned as being part of a high density Destination Center to foster business development through high quality design and an integrated, connected mix of uses.

Within the site, Trinity Road has a fully protected bike lane, separated from vehicular traffic with a raised curb and planted buffer.  Quinard Road will have a buffered bike lane, with the buffer providing approximately three feet of space between the bike rider and vehicles.   The additional space offers an extra level of comfort for bike riders of all ages and abilities.

Along the Cary Town Boulevard frontage, the development incorporates a fully separated bike and pedestrian facility.  This facility is unique in that it provides space for bike riders and pedestrians, ensuring more comfort and less potential for user conflicts.

The intersection of Cary Town Boulevard and Trinity employs a bike box design. A bike box is an area designated at the head of a traffic lane that provides bike riders with a safe and visible way to get ahead of queuing traffic during the red signal phase.

Additionally, the primary intersection within the site on Trinity utilizes a protected intersection design, one of the first in the North Carolina.  This intersection design keeps bicycles physically separated from vehicles until the intersection, reducing the amount of time bike riders are exposed to conflicts with vehicles.
