Activating Cary Greenways
Black Creek and White Oak Creek Greenways form the backbone of Cary’s 100+-mile greenway system. This spring, a new placemaking and safety project will introduce artistic centerline striping in strategic locations, along curves, and approaching underpasses. These enhancements will improve visibility and safety while also creating a distinctive visual identity for this signature greenway corridor. Learn more about the artist and project here.
Cary Greenways: Connecting Our Community for Over 40 Years
For more than four decades, greenways have shaped Cary’s quality of life, providing places for recreation, connections to nature, and safe, convenient options for walking and biking. Since adopting its first Greenways Master Plan in the 1970s and building its first greenway in 1979, Cary has steadily grown a nationally recognized greenway network through thoughtful planning, dedicated funding, partnerships with the development community, and strong stewardship.
Celebrating 100 Miles of Greenways All Year Long
In Celebrating 100 Miles of Greenways All Year Long, Cary proudly celebrates over 100 miles of paved greenway trails linking parks, neighborhoods, schools, shopping centers, and businesses across Cary. This award-winning system anchors the Triangle's 300-plus-mile regional greenway network and includes key segments of the East Coast Greenway, a state-designated trail stretching from Maine to Florida. Together, Cary's greenways offer residents and visitors opportunities for outdoor recreation, everyday moments of respite, and active transportation—making them a vital part of Cary's infrastructure and one of the finest greenway systems in North Carolina.
Whether you're on the greenways to unplug, connect with nature, or stay active, join us in this milestone celebration by participating in one or more of the following special activities and events, all year long.
