Town of Cary
Home MenuHiggins Greenway
Higgins Greenway extends 1.5 miles from SW Maynard Road to Kildaire Farm Road. It connects to West Chatham Street near Vista Creek Place, and to Union Street by Dorothy Park. The greenway users should follow all rules and regulations on the greenway. When it goes past Hillcrest Cemetery it is governed by Chapter 10 of the Town’s Code of Ordinance. Note: When a ceremony is occurring in the cemetery, the greenway will be closed to greenway users with gates. At these times please detour around on the adjacent sidewalks or streets.
For additional information about these future segments please see the current project page.
In 2013, the original segments of Higgins Greenway were reconstructed and a degraded stream channel (a tributary of Swift Creek) was stabilized. An 0.8 mile section of Higgins Greenway running parallel to the stream was repaved with the addition of several new bridges. These original Phase 1 and 2 segments extend between SW Maynard and Union Street with connectors to Danforth Drive and West Chatham Street. Over 8,000 plants were installed to aid the restoration of vegetation.
In 2025, Phase III opened extending the trail an additional 0.7 miles. This extension goes by two churches and the historic landmark of Hillcrest Cemetery out to Kildaire Farm Road. A sidewalk connection currently extends to downtown Cary including connecting to Downtown Cary Park, Cary Arts Center and the Cary Regional Library.
