The majority of the Citizen's Convenience Center operates within the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR) Right-of-Way, where federally funded rail improvements are planned. As those improvements move forward, operations must be removed from the Right-of-Way, eliminating public access to the site.

Council has evaluated service options. The food and waste drop-off sites will remain accessible for residents.

Transition timeline:

  • October 2026 - Construction will begin. The Citizen's Convenience Center will remain open as usual through December 31, 2026.
  • Starting January 1, 2027, only food and yard waste drop off will be accessible.

Beginning January 1, 2027, residents should reference their county's options for authorized disposal centers as needed; fees may apply.

This site accepts residential solid waste, recycling, food waste, and yard waste for proper disposal.

  • Visitors are asked to observe safety guidelines when dropping off materials.
  • Commercial use and waste from private contractors, including landscape companies, are prohibited.
  • Box trucks and enclosed trailers are prohibited.
