NOTICE: Public access to the Citizen’s Convenience Center will permanently close on December 30, 2026.

The majority of the Citizen's Convenience Center operates within the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR) Right-of-Way, where federally funded rail improvements are planned. As those improvements move forward, operations must be removed from the Right-of-Way, eliminating public access to the site.

Council is evaluating future service options. No alternative has been selected at this time.

Closure timeline:

  • Open as usual through December 30, 2026
  • Final day of operation: 6 p.m. December 30, 2026
  • Closed permanently starting January 1, 2027

Beginning January 1, 2027, residents should reference their county's options for authorized disposal centers as needed; fees may apply.
