The Budget Division's responsibilities include directing the planning, development, and execution of Cary’s annual operating and capital improvement budgets. Budget functions include leading service level and priority engagement with residents, Council, and staff, identifying funding sources, forecasting revenue and expenditures, measuring performance, and analyzing operations.

FY 2027 Adopted Budget

During its regular meeting on June 25, 2026, the Cary Town Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 Recommended Budget, together with the Changes to Fiscal Year 2027 Recommended Budget list. This list documents all changes made to the Recommended Budget between May 14, 2026, when it was presented to Council, and June 25, 2026, when it was adopted. The full adopted budget document will be available online at the end of September.

The FY 2027 budget includes the following:

  • A property tax rate of 36.75 cents per $100 of assessed value— an increase of 2.75 cents
  • A solid waste and recycling fee of $28 per month — an increase of $2 per month
  • 4% overall utility rate increase applied to the base charge — about $3.08 per month increase for a typical household

The budget:

  • Includes an historic commitment to public safety
  • Invests in new capital projects
  • Maintains existing infrastructure

Nonprofit Funding

Cary provides funding to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations as part of its annual budget process. Organizations can apply for general nonprofit funds or cultural arts funds. To be eligible for funding, an organization must promote, provide, or support services in Cary that support the Council's mission and services. A call for applications is issued in January, and applications are due March 1. The two funding applications and Cary’s policies for each type of funding are available below.
