Following the December 2025 resignation of the former Town Manager, the Town of Cary is moving forward to strengthen financial structures, governance practices, and organizational culture. The Town is using its annual independent audit, required by law, as part of that effort.
Cherry Bekaert LLP is Cary’s external independent auditor and reviewed the Town’s financial statements, compliance practices, and internal controls for FY25. The findings and recommendations were presented to Town Council on February 5, 2026.

Background
North Carolina General Statute 159-34 requires every local government to have its accounts audited each fiscal year by an independent certified public accountant. The completed audit is filed with the N.C. Local Government Commission and made available to the public.
Cary’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) is the official statement of the Town’s financial position at the close of the fiscal year and includes the findings of its independent audit.
