As Cary continues to grow and evolve, pedestrian and bicycle crossing safety remains at top of mind.  A strategy to help reduce fatal and serious injuries on our transportation network necessitates a focus on Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) because they are at higher risk of serious injury.  VRUs are not afforded the same inherent protections as are drivers (airbags, seat belts, the vehicle itself, etc.).

Based on research, review, and funding availability, Cary’s Traffic Engineering group employs many different devices in an effort to improve safety for all road users at locations where pedestrians and bicyclists are crossing the roadway.  These devices have also been installed in response to input from our citizens through Cary311.
