Cary is dedicated to preserving and protecting our finite natural resources. In 1996, the Town Council established a Water Conservation and Demand Management Policy. To achieve the goals of this policy, the Town Council has passed ordinances in addition to education and incentive programs to encourage wise water use.

Are you in compliance? Learn more with the questions below.

  1. Is it my day to water according to the Town of Cary's year round Alternate-Day Watering Ordinance?
  2. Does my automatic irrigation system comply with the Rain Sensor Ordinance?
  3. Are any of my irrigation heads or sprinklers watering the driveway or street in violation of the Water Waste Ordinance?
  4. Has my irrigation system received the required plumbing permits?
Check out the list of drought-tolerant plants (required for all commercial landscapes as of August 2000).

In the event that the Town Manager declares a water shortage, the Water Shortage Ordinance will go into effect.
